TriOak Foods History
TriOak Foods began operations in January 1951, at Oakville, Iowa as Oakville Feed & Produce. The company sold feed supplements to local farms and purchased their eggs and milk for resale to grocery merchants. John McCulley and his wife Betty founded the company and operated it for 40 years. The company is now a second generation family corporation.
1950s
During this decade the company phased out the produce business and began grain elevator and fertilizer operations. The name was changed to Oakville Feed & Grain, Inc.
1960 to 1980
During this 20 year span the company expanded its grain services and added storage capacity to the Oakville site. The company also became a leading retail agronomy center for local grain producers. Feed operations expanded and the Oak Feed brand was established.
1980's
The early 80's saw retail feed operations grow to serve many pork producers in Iowa and Western Illinois. Economics in the mid 1980's started to transform the Crop and livestock landscape. The feed division began its transformation into a contract pork production system as our feed customers asked for us to furnish animals to utilize their facilities and avoid market risk. The transformation took about a decade to complete. Grain operations and agronomy services grew gradually through the decade.
1990's
This decade saw rapid growth in the pork operations, the addition of 4 grain facilities in Southeast Iowa, and the relocation and construction of a state of the art agronomy center. The role of these facilities changed with the rapid consolidation of grain producers and the many technological advances made in grain production. 'Identity Preserved' corn production was introduced in 1996. This pilot project quickly grew into thousands of acres of corn specifically grown for making pig feeds. Crop producers were paid a premium for growing the IP corn and the segregated corn had added nutrient value in pig diets. Oakville Feed & Grain became TriOak Foods, Inc. in September of 1999. This change aligned the company name closer to its real business. TriOak Foods is in the business of food production and the name keeps the focus on this mission. By the end of the decade the many changes left pork production as the driving force of the company
2000's
TriOak has grown and perfected its production system in the last decade. Crop producers and contract growers have added huge value to their operations and land with the TriOak system. TriOak's focus on Identity Preserved corn, superior pig genetics and efficient production systems has set the stage for a sustainable future. IP growers, contract producers and the pork consumer are assured that TriOak is working every day to promote the well being of all animals, herd health, land stewardship and a high quality safe pork product.
